Old-School Romance

This is an open letter to @girliefail, but it’s also a manifesto on what makes romantic relationships truly legendary.

In a word, it’s passion.

And not merely physical passion, although that is the cornerstone.  You should be physically, insatiably, utterly crazy about each other.  She and I have been like hormonally overcharged teenagers with each other for two years now.  We started keeping a sex journal – a calendar where we log our encounters, and it’s absurdly full.  If there’s a day we don’t have sex, there’s usually a day where we have multiple bouts of intercourse.

We spend days together building physical anticipation for hours at a time.  Some days, we take a break in our errands just to run home for a nooner.  Some days, it’s sex first thing in the morning.  Sometimes, it’s the middle of the night when we both happen to be up.  Sometimes she’ll simply gyrate in my direction while in bed and it’ll start the fireworks.

We have a LOT of sex.  And it has only increased as we’ve moved in together and spent even more time with each other.

That is what physical passion looks like.  And it motivates us both… we’re accountable to each other, and we’re taking good care of ourselves because of it.  If you know you’re spending a lot of time naked with someone, you’re going to want to stay in good shape, keep your energy levels high, and maintain excellent grooming and hygiene.

It is my belief that this foundation is what motivates us to embrace the same level of passion in other areas of our lives together.  We love talking about work together – whether it’s our day jobs, or our numerous side-hustles.  We’re fully vested in each other’s success, and in building upon those to have success together.

We’re passionate about personal growth together – whether it’s physical fitness, intellectual fulfillment, spiritual enhancement, or building relationships.  We’re building ourselves constantly together, and we’re determined to be an indomitable power couple.

We’re passionate about seeking adventure together, whether it’s as simple as spending a Saturday exploring around our home, or as fantastic as a week-long road trip to parts unknown.  We’ve both fought our way out of relationships that prioritized sedentary, spectator hobbies, and have fully embraced full, active lives that create lasting memories and stories we’ll be telling for years to come.

We’re passionate about solving problems together.  We get excited when we see an obstacle to overcome, because we’ve become highly skilled at planning, adapting, and executing together.  Every day gives us a test to pass, and as a pair of highly competitive alpha personalities, we love having opportunities to prove ourselves.

So, find that one that you can be passionate with.  Embrace it.  Charge after it fearlessly.  You’ll be amazed at what you can do with the right attitude.  And you’ll have the kind of legendary romance other people only dream about.
